BOE Agenda for November 7 - Warning: This is a long one.

Below is a copy of most of the agenda for tonight's BOE meeting. I am particularly interested in consent resolution points 6,7,8 and the workshop.
*
6 is the tentative paraprofessional contract. This is interesting in light of the recent letter to the editor in the ONW from members of the para union who pointed out several BOE members whose campaigns benefited from funds from the para union. I wonder if they got their requests met?
*
7 is a confirmation of the attendance area. I do appreciate that there is finally a specifically defined area and timeline for these changes. Now, I didn't say I liked the plan. I just appreciate the effort to make sure more information and an actual plan are available to the community. So, a big thanks to those that put the details together so the community has the chance to make informed decisions, opinions, and (potentially) statements.

Beginning with Kindergarten Round-Up for the 2008-09 school year, any incoming kindergarten student living in Area 2 shall enroll at Roosevelt Primary/Elementary School unless they have an older sibling that will be attending Oakwood Primary/Elementary School in the 2008-09 school year. In this case, the families with an incoming Kindergarten student have the option of choosing to have their Kindergarten student “grandfathered” to Oakwood Primary/Elementary School through the final grade offered at that school, or to have the older sibling(s) attending Oakwood Primary/Elementary School move to Roosevelt Primary/Elementary School along with the incoming Kindergarten student.
*
Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, students who live in Area 1 completing their final year at Roosevelt Primary/Elementary School shall attend Merrill Intermediate/Middle School unless they have an older sibling that will be attending Tipler Intermediate/Middle School in the 2009-2010 school year. In this case, the families with an incoming intermediate/middle school student have the option of choosing to have that student “grandfathered” to Tipler Intermediate/Middle School through the eighth grade, or to have the older sibling(s) attending Tipler Intermediate/Middle School move to Merrill Intermediate/Middle along with the incoming intermediate/middle school student.

*
Effective with the onset of the 2009-2010 school year, students who live in Area 1 that are currently attending Tipler Intermediate/Middle School would be “grandfathered” at that school through the eighth grade.

*
Resolution 8 is the architect's contract. What I find interesting is that the architect has already been working for us "out of the goodness of their hearts" for the last few weeks. I understand that the contract was a sure thing as far as most were concerned. I also understand that a second opinion by another architect could be a good idea when we are talking about closing and selling properties. I merely think that the architect going to work without a contract gives a negative perception than if the architect had started after a contract was secured.
*
Another point of interest, if you are still reading, is the workshop. The transportation committee will be reviewing their recommendations based on contact with Kobussen about the new attendance area.

Roosevelt option is a band aid on a larger problem. Merrill is already near 90% capacity and Tipler has the room for the Roosevelt kids. Why change the grade school enrollment when the problem is at the high schools?
This plan will only serve to divide the community further. The BOE took the path of lest resistance. Rich area venus a poorer areas and guess who wins again.
Certainly NOT the children!
Now how are they going to get the children across the river and through those major traffic intersections safely.
Where is the bussing plan?
How much will that plan cost the district in additional bussing costs?
We have a high school we can see out the back yard and you want the kids to go to North.
