In a letter to Superintendent Ron Heilmann, Jr, Blue Door Consulting resigned as OASD's PR firm effective November 15, 2007.
Reasons cited for the abrupt departure were that they have too much business to devote any more time to OASD. They also stated that their relationship with OASD was supposed to conclude in March and then in October. "However, with no end in sight, we no longer have the capacity to support this project, given the demands of our growing client base." Brenda Haines and Heidi Strand have agreed to help with a smooth transition and to finish two projects "unrelated to the facilities planning." They have also volunteered to be members of the OASD Public Relations Steering Committee.
In the 1+ year, Blue Door Consulting has done much for the district though some could argue they have actually accomplished very little. Communication is still a huge issue in this district. However, it has improved and something is better than nothing. Brenda Haines contributed many, many hours of her time to help create the many scenarios that have since been scrapped for one reason or another by the BOE and community.
I cannot say that this was a total loss for Brenda or the community. While PMP relied on a few structured and arguably orchestrated public forums, each scenario brought forward more and more community members who gave perspectives not thought about in isolated meetings. For instance, the PMP report claims to have identified community values. For the most part, this is true. However, some values were slightly off and others were totally far from what the community has raised in the last several months. Even in committees, there were things we were willing to consider like splitting schools as they fed through the system, that were horribly off from what the community has told us they really value: keeping peer groups together.
While this has become a long, drawn out process, we are closer to a decision. Had we not gone through all of this, our community could have been left with a dry, unfeeling plan based solely on PMP's report and based only partially on actual community values. In a way, we are fortunate as a community to have had so many opportunities to speak our minds to the BOE. We are still fortunate enough to be able to address our concerns to the BOE before all of this is concluded.
Are we better off after spending approximately $140,000 on Blue Door Consulting's PR services? Is the BOE finally moving forward and is this movement in the best interest of the entire district? What can we expect from the BOE and the community with each presentation of the remaining four committees? Is there a plan that the majority of the community could support with a referendum?

Blue Door Consulting Resigns

While I appreciate your kindness toward Blue Door, my mind keeps wandering to all the possible ways we could have spent $140K.
I find it disgusting that the school board is tied up over adding one bus route for a pittance; and OASD readily gives away hundreds of thousands of dollars to consultants and PR which turn out to be useless.
Blue Door want to sever its ties because of the "demands of our growing client base?!"
This is either the worst spin I've ever heard, or these people are stupid business people.
Why would Blue Door want to leave the OASD when this has been a cash cow for them? There is no accountability, they've received over $140,000 and the cash just keeps coming in, the contract basically will never end, and they have board members who are dumb enough to defend them. And all they're doing is taking meeting minutes and coming up with stupid boundary plans.
So, they want to focus on the "growing" client base? Would this be the clients who are small, have little money, and Blue Door actually has to work for??
How dumb do the gals at Blue Door think we are?
I'm thinking that Blue Door has received a Black Eye from the OASD because they are involved with this disaster called the boundary plan and they've lost credibility in the community because of it and is now having a hard time FINDING new clients!!!
Well, good riddance, they wasted my tax money, now lets some poor unsuspecting private business get hosed by them!
Things are really starting to come around in this city. Wollangk is gone, department heads of the city are leaving, we have a half way decent council now, Blue Door is getting the boot. Man, it's like Christmas come early!!!
I received this post from an anonymous person. I have edited it as I do not believe in posting personal attacks on an individual's personal appearance or her family's. Disagree with the person's views and post your own. Question her comments, research, and actions if you like. Leave physical judgments, character attacks, and a person's children out of it.
Thank you.

"I am new to the school district. A friend told me about the Oshkonversation thing by the newspaper and the school board meetings on cable. I just read some of the crap a certain "about kids" politician put on the internet about Michelle Monte. I don't know Monte form Adam, but since there is no third-party independent blog about school stuff, I am posting here.
That woman Theel is so far out there I cannot beleive she ever held any kind of office.
She wants to get down and dirty and allow it on her blog and delete everything bad about her, she better be prepared to get kind for kind.

If I had to vote on anything, if her name was attached or anyone who supported her or who was supported by her, I would vote against it out of principle. Maybe she should do some real research and not jump on every old piece of garbage she can get her hands on. Tennessee schools are not what that old study says they are and I can say that from personal experience!
She tells Monte to go back to school, maybe she should take her own advice. If ignorance is bliss Theel must be the happiest person in Wisconsin!"
Mrs. Monte,
I was the one who wrote that post and I apologize for losing my tmeper and letting that woman and her "anonymous" friends get my goat. Having had a chance to settle down, I see that anyone whose supporters cannot reveal their names is clearly not worth my time and a person who claims to care about anything that allows the garbage Theel does on her blog is equally not worth much of anything.
I don't know why this school district can't function worth a darn, but I hope there are more people with class like you and only one of that woman and her anonymous friend/friends (?). I see from reading your blog that you at least have ideas. It is a shame that the other lady, and I use that term loosely, can't even muster that much.
Keep up the efforts, some things do pay off in the end and go noticed.
JBV
I also urge you to keep up your efforts to improve our schools.
On a different note, Ms. Theil should be ashamed to publish the comments on her blog. It is moderated (she never publishes my pithy comments) and she can choose to decline those comments which are hateful. I am only sorry that you are the target of her posters' ill manners.
I think you mean cited Michelle. Good Lord.
Thank you for your support.
Do not apologize, though the gesture is appreciated. It is not your place to do so.
I do not take anything too seriously when it comes to character attacks. Comments like what is allowed and fostered on that blog go largely ignored by me. I do not feel such comments or the person/people making them and allowing them are significant enough to merit the expenditure of energy necessary for it to get to me. I prefer to laugh at the ridiculousness.
Someone gave me some advice a few years ago when others had tried to get my ire up and succeeded. I'm pretty sure it was more of a criticism but I chose to make lemonade from the lemon. Someone said I needed to grow thicker skin. Thinking in terms of my whole-heartedly wanting to make a positive difference in our community, I have taken that suggestion and made it a sort of mantra. If someone does not have the courage or integrity to sign their name, why should I get upset. Clearly that person is not proud of their comments and is merely compelled to try and make others miserable. Why feed that pathology? Those that encourage it by posting such dribble on their blogs, feeding into the situation to get more, and deleting anything negative about themselves are just as bad, if not worse. The fact that some choose to attack me and my family on a personal level and are afraid to challenge me on my opinions, ideas, and beliefs tells me they are too dense to handle such a discussion. Let the sour-pusses do what they must to feel good about themselves. Others of us are better than that.
Anonymous 2:02, thanks for pointing out my typo. I appreciate the help.
Have a great week!
