I just wanted to remind everyone that there is NOT an ASC/CRT meeting tonight. I believe the next meeting will be determined after the retreat is conducted by the Board of Education on October 1, 2007 from 10:00-4:00 at Central Administration.

I have not heard if there will be a chance for the public to speak. If there is, I certainly hope the public gets the notice more than 24 hours prior to the meeting as is outlined in state statutes; unlike the last meeting change.

Independent Thoughts has observed that the popular local discussion board Questioning Everything, Always has closed shop. This is a pity because QEA often had very lengthy discussions on local matters involving a variety of people. So to fill the void, I've decided to attempt on a trial basis to offer the same service here at the Chief.
Here's how it'll work:
I'll maintain a link just below The Chief's header that will lead readers to a discussion area pertaining to a pertinent local issue. Readers and potential commentators won't have to scroll down or anything -- the link will be located just the right of the main blog thread and will always be the first item displayed on the "sidebar." The topic will change as circumstances dictate, meaning according to news events or the rhythm of the conversation.
Suggestions for improvement will always welcome. Please use the comment section of this post to make any recommendations. The most pressing issue right now is a name. What should this little forum be called? I'd like to think that the collective brain power of the Oshkosh online community can come up with something better than OshKonversation.
At the moment I have very few plans to "edit" the conversation thread on a regular basis. I may skim over the dialog from time to time, but this will be on no fixed interval. So everyone's on their own. It's just not something I enjoy doing. Plus, I'm kind of interested in seeing what a "Lord of the Flies" internet atmosphere looks like. All of this will change if the discussion becomes abusive. I do not mind filthy language, so long as it is not directed at specific individuals (fellow commentators or otherwise). Racist and/or bigoted language will not be tolerated. Again, I do not plan on monitoring the discussion religiously so I will hope users will maintain a sense of decorum and etiquette.
This will be an experiment. We'll see how it works.

I just got done reading Thiel's blog. As a student, I find it amazing that she and her supporters actually have the gall to accuse Monte of being viscious and nasty. Her blog is not "About Kids" unless you count her juvenile antics. She is a nasty awful, evil woman and I hope she has the good sense not to run for anything again, but I doubt it. She and her supporters accuse Monte of being all kinds of things but it looks like nothing more than projecting. If I could vote here, I would be voting Monte, even as a write in. I can see clearly why Thiel came in DEAD LAST!
Thiel is a tax and spend liberal, that is why she came in dead last.
And if she runs again, she'll come in dead last again!

I know Mrs. Thiel. I like Mrs. Thiel. To designate her as a "tax and spend liberal" is to reveal that you do not know her at all.
The shallowness of that remark is STUNNING! Good Lord. This is not a big city and we are not dealing with questions of life and death. Oshkosh is, at best, a provincial backwater berg in which some folks entertain dangerous illusions. This is a school boundary question. In most places it remains a simple issue taken care of with an administrative decision.
However, here in 'Kosh it becomes a chewed to death bone wherein sides are formed and perfectly fine citizens are savaged. Why is it not enough to post your opposition to Mrs. Thiel's ideas without flinging out childishly mean and preposterous charges? Why do you find one lady who has the grit to identify herself such a major threat that you are moved to unacceptably ugly attacks?
Listen to yourselves. You disrespect both yourselves and your positions. You become a snarling mob waving shoes and rolling pins at a "witch" all these many decades after the "unpleasantness" at Salem.
Mrs. Thiel is a fine lady, a loving and engaged mother,a good friend and a caring citizen who has put herself on the line for her beliefs. I would think you would have the grace to listen to her then feel free to join the discussion with your own ideas. I would think you would be able to maintain a civil tone and at least a semblance of composure.
11:16am. Nice spin! Theil is a tax and spend liberal. She voted for every tax increase she could get her hands on while she was ON the School Board and when she ran for the postion this last time, she openly said she wanted to "tax to the max."

Evil Eye on Oshkosh had the two liberal points of view (Bowen/Weinsheim) regarding the boundary situation. Because Cheryl Hentz is a "fair" person, I'm sure we'll see the conservative side (Schneider/Becker) of the story on the next show.

Your "fine lady, a loving and engaged mother,a good friend and a caring citizen" is guilty of allowing the "snarling mob" to take over her website in order to burn Monte at the stake for being outspoken and passionate about our children and schools. The worst anyone has called Mrs. Thiel is a tax and spender. Hardly untrue and far from uncivilized. However, Mrs. Thiel has allowed, encouraged, and possibly anonymously participated in, uncivilized, nasty, and vindictive comments. Your "caring friend" allows suspicion, conspiracy theories, and innuendos about the Montes run rampant on her site while deleting anything negative about herself. She claims everything Monte says is false and Monte knows nothing. Everything is subject to interpretation and Thiel's isn't always correct either, she just thinks it is. Clearly composure is not in Thiel's vocabulary. Just like you asserted about Thiel, the people on her site clearly do not know Monte nor are they civilized.
